Friday Puzzler: The solution

The Question

Last week we asked you the tricky puzzler:

Find the next two numbers in the following sequence; 75, 15, 25, 5, 15, …, …

The Solution

If you look at the sequence you can see that 15 is just 75 ÷ 5 and that 5 is just 25 ÷ 5.

This is a good start but now we need to find the link between 15, 25 and 5, 15. Clearly it is not ÷ 5 every time but we can see with these pairs we are just doing + 10 between them. So the sequence is just ÷ 5 +10 ÷5 +10 ÷5 +10.

So after the last 15 we need to divide by 5 to get 3 and then add 10 to get 13

So the answer is 3 and 13.
