Why Maths Doctor

Education in Hampstead

As part of the borough of Camden within inner London, Hampstead is a particularly affluent area known for its intellectual, cultural and artistic associations. Despite there being absolutely no overflow of students within the areas state secondary schools, only 67% of said students are granted a place within their preferred facility.

Maths is important

‘Why is maths seen as one of the most important educational subjects?’ This is a good question and the answer can seem quite puzzling at first glance. How can this peculiar, imaginary world of numbers hold its own alongside the scientific study of the world that we can see in front of us? Or against the study of the language which we use to describe this world? One of the reasons for the prominence of maths is that there are an amazing number of important jobs that require mathematical knowledge: Accountancy, Engineering, Financial Risk Analysis, Statistics, Architecture, Science Research, Computer Science, Graphic Design, Computer Programming, Marketing Management and Data Analysis. This list could go on, and includes just a handful of the wide variety of professions in which employees use maths on a day-to-day basis. What is particularly striking, is that these maths jobs are all incredibly important and they form the foundation of our societies. It seems that when it comes to making the key decisions, it is much better to rely on the logic of numbers than the unpredictability of opinions, ideas and guesswork. Ultimately then, the prominence of maths comes from the authority of numbers. No one can question that 1+1 =2!
